Outbound without U

When I hear the word outbound, what comes to my mind is forest and mountain. So when I first arrived in the outbondholic (and again, outbound without u), I was a bit surprised that the outbound area was just like a field with all those cables, trees and stuffs for the outbound. It was my first time doing outbound so I really had no ideas about what was going to happen. But I knew that it would be fun and challenging, but what made it even more fun was actually because I was with my friends there.

Before the outbound started, we had a training on how to survive and finish all the challenges there. Me myself, I became really excited to do it because it was something new to me and it seemed fun and challenging. I’m the type of person who loves challenges and when they get harder, the more I will be pumped up.
So yeah, the outbound started. The first area was quite easy and not that challenging. The height was not that high. We finished the first area quite fast and we didn’t face any difficulties. It became a little more difficult and challenging in the second area. Higher trees, longer paths to go through and more flying foxes. I was the last to go to in the second area. I got into the area of the flying fox. The thing about the flying fox is that when you’re almost on the other side, you need to prepare your left hand to grip the black cable in order to stop. And if ever you don’t grip it, the flying fox will bring you back to where you came from. The instructor in the training told us that if ever that happens, we have to grip the cable of the flying fox to stop our movement then do the commando to go to the other side. And you know what, that happened to me. I wasn’t able to grip the black cable and the flying fox glided me back to where I came from. I was panic and forgot about what the instructor told us to do if that happens. The instructor saw me gliding back then he shouted telling me to grip the cable and so I did. I stopped then did the commando. I realized that it is important to remember what the people around us have taught us and we tend to be forgetful when we are panic, so yeah when we are panic, we have to try our best to calm ourselves then remember about the lessons that have been taught to us then try to figure out how to solve the problems we are facing. I know that it’s hard to calm ourselves when we are panic, but we have our God, who will always be with us in the midst of all of our problems, who can always calm ourselves if we ask Him to. One thing I also realized is that if we just can’t seem to remember what we have been taught, there will always be someone to remind us about that. It can be our parents, siblings, friends or just some random people. I managed to make it through to the end of the second area.

We rested a bit, drank a glass of water to replenish the water in our bodies because we sweated a lot. After we were done, we went to the third area. The third area was even more challenging. Way higher than the second one and the challenges were harder than before. Nothing special about the third area though. The lesson I learned from this area is that there’s no need to rush things up when there’s nothing rushing us up. Sometimes we just have to do things slowly and right, enjoy every bit of it while consciously knowing when we have to get them done.

Finally! We reached the last area! One of our friends kept on saying that the last area was his favorite (I think he’s just convincing himself that hahahahha). The instructor told us that the height of the flying fox is 300 meters. I saw the tower of the flying fox before going up and I admitted that I was scared (but I pretended that I was brave hahahaha). But yeah, since I was there already, why not doing it? So we climbed up the ladders. After the ladders, it was the time for climbing the spider web (I don’t know what it is called, but for me it looks like a big spider web). I had a hard time climbing because I was scared of the height (don’t tell anyone about this haha) and the feeling of being scared of falling down. So yeah both of them did a good job of slowing me down. It took a lot of efforts for me to reach the top of the tower. The feeling of finally reaching it was really great. I felt like a champion who just won a competition hahah. I enjoyed the view from the top of the tower. I was able to see the tol road, ancol and some other tall buildings. Then what came to my mind that time is that when we are in a higher position in an organization or group, that means that we must be able to see the bigger picture of everything, bringing them to the right place by leading their way.

We couldn’t stay there too long. The adventure must go on. So the time for the 300 meters flying fox finally came. I did it first. Before I started, I got so anxious but then I decided to let go of my anxiety and just enjoy it. And yeah, it was really fun and cool! Before I took off, the instructor told me that the flying fox would stop in the middle and we would have to do the commando to reach the other side. After it stopped, I had to do the commando. I wasn’t able to finish it by myself because I was so tired and I was actually wondering what would happen if I couldn’t make it. Then after seeing me having a hard time doing the commando, the instructor sent a grip to me so that I could be pulled by him. Phew! I was saved haha. Good thing one of my friends didn’t make it as well so he needed to be pulled also or else, I would be ashamed that it was only me who didn’t make it hahahaha. But yeah, another realization is that we will always have our friends on our side who are there to help us when we need help.

The next challenge was crossing the bridge (I’m not sure about the name though haha). It was really high and I went first. To tell you honestly, I was scared hahaha. Then my other friends were like shaking the cables and stuffs. So yeah, I wasn’t really able to move that fast. In fact, I was really slow! Then one of my friends reminded me, told me to not look downward. And yeah it helped. I was able to make it until the end. There was a time when I told my friend that when he was practicing ice skating. “Don’t look at the ice”, that’s what I told him. But I seemed to forget about what I told him before. And yeah I realized that we might be reminded by the people around us whom we have taught something when we forget to practice what we’ve taught them. Having each other’s back. And another realization is that we should set our minds on what’s ahead of us, the goals, not on the obstacles that occur when we’re trying to achieve our goals.

We finally reached at the last challenge, the last flying fox. It was not as high as the last one but yeah it was still high.

Phew! We made it through! We did it all! The feeling was so great when I was able to finish everything. This outbondholic helped me realize a lot of stuffs. And by the way, we realized that it’s outbondholic (outbound without u) when we were about to leave hahahaha. A great day I had with a great adventure and great friends/brothers. I wish we can do this together again friends!
